Moreland Community Walks Their Way to Success!
In October, three of our schools walked their way towards more school funds!
Baker’s Catwalk took place on Saturday, October 10th, and both Country Lane and EDS held their Walk-a-thons on Saturday, October 24th.
Over 490 students and families participated in Baker’s Catwalk. Carnival games were a big hit, with a ring toss, cake walk, ping pong toss, and lollipop pull. Participants enjoyed a delicious BBQ while bidding in the live auction, which included VIP seating and parking for student performances. Raffle drawings for social outings with Baker teachers were huge crowd-pleasers. The Baker Bobcat Mascot made an appearance, while a DJ kept the spirit of the day festive. Smiles were everywhere as students enjoyed a day of purposeful fun with family and friends. Funds raised from the Catwalk will continue to support a strong instructional program at Baker. Thank you to everyone who participated!
This year marks the 3rd Annual Husky Run. The theme was "Fall Festival" and hay bales, pumpkins, and scarecrows decorated the EDS campus.
Participants walked laps and earned prizes at
milestones, while former EDS students Nicky Makarov and Matt Gottwals kept the crowd moving as DJ’s. Festivities included bouncy houses, a Cake Walk, face painting, crafts, henna tattoos, and a water launch where students could soak their teacher or administrator! The "Dog Pound" was open, where people could send friends and family for a rest. Participants enjoyed a yummy BBQ or pizza lunch. The silent auction was a big hit, with prizes from community donors including mountain bikes, Sharks tickets, Winery Tours, and tickets to other bay area venues. The popular "Teacher Date" raffle included trips to a Sharks Game, a tour of Wild 94.9, and a grand master tour of EDS from EDS custodian Tony Medina, followed by lunch on the patio of his RV in the parking lot. The grade level that walked the most laps received the "Bad to the Bone" award, which they will hold until they are challenged in 2010. A great time was had by all. EDS wishes to say a special thank you to their to staff and volunteers for making it possible.
Country Lane's 2009 Aussie Walkabout was a great success! Early numbers indicate that about 470 people walked, jogged, and even ran 11,576 laps while enjoying great music and food. That is 2,894 miles in 4 hours. While the numbers are still being finalized, it looks like the Colts raised about $44,000! This total includes money from pledges, corporate sponsors, t-shirt sales, and the Teacher Activity Raffle. Fourth grade parents ran the
Crocodile Cafe serving breakfast and lunch to raise money for 5th grade Science Camp. Yogurtland, the trendy sweet spot for students and staff, was also on site and was a very popular treat!
