The Baker Home & School Partnership sponsors Scrip.

Our goal is to have 100% of Baker families participating in our Scrip Program.  We offer many ways to participate and we've made it EASY!  We offer gift cards and paper Scrip.  We keep a well-stocked inventory of Scrip from approximately 100 of your favorite stores.

The stores and restaurants where you already spend your money will donate a percentage of the amount you spend back to Baker School. We're not asking you to spend any more money than you would normally spend at these stores. We're not asking you to buy chocolates, magazines, or anything else that you wouldn't ordinarily buy. What we are asking you to do, is to pay for the things you buy with Scrip instead of cash, check, or credit card.

We also participate in Nob Hill, Raley's, and Lucky's SHARES card, eScrip, and credit/debit card programs through Schoolpop(Baker School ID#97845), Target, and Washington Mutual. Click the links to register your cards to benefit Baker Elementary School each time you make a purchase!
NOTE: If you would like to participate in the Nob Hill / Raley's rewards program to benefit Baker School, you must first get a Nob Hill "Quality of People's Lives" rewards card from the school office.

What is Scrip?

Scrip is a gift certificate. It is accepted the same as cash. It is a substitute for cash. Since it is virtually the same as cash, it should be secured just as you would secure your cash.

How does the school earn money through Scrip?

When you purchase $100 of Long's Scrip (there are many stores to choose from), you pay $100 and receive Scrip certificates that will buy $100 of merchandise at Long's (or the store or your choice). The Baker Home & School Club has previously purchased the Scrip certificates at the discounted amount of $95, thereby earning $5 or 5% for our children. The percentages of profit range from 2% to 20%. In past years, we have been able to provide Baker School with basketball hoops and poles for the primary playground, a new kindergarten playground structure, playground balls for all grades, a lighting system for the multi-use room, and we have been able to reduce the overall cost of Science Camp.

How do I buy Scrip?

For your first Scrip order, simply fill out an order form for the stores and denominations that you want. These forms are available in your child's Wednesday Envelope or can be found in the school office. Write a check payable to Baker Scrip for the full face value of the Scrip you are purchasing. Your Scrip will be ready for pick-up on Friday mornings in the office or it will be sent home in your child's Wednesday envelope. You can also request a regular standing order such as a weekly order and again you can specify which method of pick-up you would prefer. Scrip is for sale in the office during school hours.

How is Scrip accepted in the stores?

Scrip is accepted the same as cash.  Most Scrip is sold as a gift card now.  This card retains the unused balance. With paper Scrip, the stores vary regarding how much change they are willing to give you back from your purchases. Some stores will give full change. Some will limit the amount of change back to $5 or less. Some stores use 20% as a guideline, and some stores will give Scrip as change. But remember, we sell various denominations of Scrip to help alleviate some of these problems.

I don't think I'll use much Scrip, why should I bother?

First of all, it's not a bother and it is easy. Second, you might think of it this way; if you don't use Scrip, you're denying your children and all the other children at Baker School funding for some wonderful programs that we wouldn't have without this Scrip fundraising effort. A family purchasing $50 every other week at the average percentage of 5% will raise $55 in a year. The biggest seller we have, is our grocery Scrip and let's face it, we all have to eat!  The average family, spending $150 every other week to buy groceries, would raise $165 for our school in one year! If just half of our 300 families bought $150 of grocery Scrip every other week, we would raise over $20,000!!! And that's just the grocery Scrip. We also have a wide variety of restaurants and department stores for which you can buy Scrip.

Won't you please give it a try? You have nothing to lose, and our children have everything to gain!

And as an added incentive........

Every time you purchase Scrip 1% is set aside for you to use to pay for your child's 4th grade field trip to Sacramento and/or your child's 5th grade field trip to Science Camp. This money is collected in a family account . Statements are issued twice yearly or upon demand. This savings account can add up quickly and is a great way to save for these costly field trips!

You can also sign up for eScrip (electronic Scrip) and register your Safeway & Macy's cards as well as any debit or credit cards you use regularly. When you shop at the stores that participate in eScrip, they send a percentage of your purchases to Baker School's Scrip Program. Forms are available from the Baker School office or you can register online.
Baker School's account number is: 0137603776.

Get started using Scrip. Pick one store that you visit frequently (i.e. drug store, grocery store, or gas station) and buy that Scrip. Make it a habit to use that Scrip and to buy it regularly. When you are comfortable using that Scrip, add some other stores/restaurants. Make Scrip a way of life. If you have any questions, please contact the Baker School office at 874-3200 and one of the SCRIP chairpersons will give you a call or you may contact our Scrip Coordinator, Katie Taylor, at ktaylor@emeraldcave.net.
