Welcome to the Moreland School District!
Moreland students enjoy fresh produce grown by local farmers and are educated about the growing and distribution process as part of Sodexo’s Fresh Pick Program. Offering locally sourced produce supports students with nutritious food that ripens in the field longer. It also supports farmers and growers with revenue, helps the local economy, and reduces transportation time and cost.
Foodservice Director Rick Kessler is helping to transform the eating habits of students at Moreland by providing locally grown produce for salad bars, working with Moreland’s award-winning cafeteria staff to create nutritious menus and meals, and writing grant proposals.
Moreland schools will be receiving beautiful new salad bars and water taps thanks to Rick Kessler who wrote and submitted the application that secured grants from HBO, Whole Foods Market’s Whole Kids Foundation, and GLOBALTAP.
HBO held a press conference May 1st at Payne Elementary to kick off “The Weight of the Nation” documentary campaign. HBO’s documentary will provide information on the statistics of the nation who are overweight or obese (31.7% of children and adolescents age two to 19), societal forces, and ways to overcome them and get healthy.
HBO’s multi-part series runs on Monday, May 14 at 8:00 p.m., May 15 at 8:00 p.m., May 16 at 7:00 p.m.
